Notes on the restoration project

This restoration was carried out on an eighteenth-century missal with a binding “alla Du Seuil“.

Augustine De Seuil was a French bookbinder, famous for very elegant bindings, generally adorned with thin golden threads, ending at the corners with flower shapes.

The blanket was hidden under a layer of a posthumous blanket. A delicate removal of the previous layer allowed the recovery of the plates with gold decorations.

Once the papers were restored and the stitching was carried out, the long work of inlaying the leather began, and allowed the recovery of the original binding.
