Restoration of Francesco Bartolozzi Engraving [Private Collection]

Notes about the restoration project

This restoration project involved an original etching by Francesco Bartolozzi, a mixed technique on paper representing a young man. The work is part of a private collection. 

The damages mainly present were due to the acidity of the paper, the presence of stains (the so-called foxing phenomenon), the presence of gore due to washing.

After a delicate surface cleaning, a capillary washing and deacidification operation was performed. This has allowed securing the paper support, lightening the stains with consequent aesthetic improvement, also due to the disappearance of the gore.

The work was replaced in its original frame after being mounted in passpartout made with acid free cardboard.

This project has been carried out for Coo.Be.C., Cooperativa di Beni Cultural, Spoleto.
